Asset management plan
Asset management planning allows Bay of Plenty Regional Council to manage our physical assets, their performance and maintenance expenditures, and the associated risk over their lifecycles.
The Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) provides the linkage between the strategic direction of Regional Council and the asset management objectives for those assets that deliver services to its community.
Providing effective and efficient management of assets is a key obligation for the Regional Council. As custodian of community assets, we are committed to managing its assets in the most cost-effective manner and to provide efficient, safe and reliable services for current and future generations.
These assets these are managed through five asset management plans (AMPs) with a significant majority of the assets sitting within the Rivers and Drainage AMP.

Strategic Asset Management Plan
The SAMP sets out Regional Council’s long-term approach to managing its infrastructure assets that provide services to our communities.
Rivers and Drainage Asset Management Plan
Rivers and Drainage Asset Management Plan outlines a 50-year strategy for how we manage and maintain flood protection and drainage assets
Coastal Catchments Asset Management Plan
The Regional Parks and Coastal Catchments Asset Management Plan outlines a 10-year strategy for how we manage and maintain more than 200ha of land and associated assets (such as structures, equipment, vegetation and utilities).
Maritime Asset Management Plan
The Maritime Asset Management Plan outlines a 10-year strategy for how we manage and maintain the assets and services that contribute to this activity, which are collectively valued at about $2.1M (as of 30 June, 2024).
Rotorua Te Arawa Lakes Asset Management Plan
The Rotorua Te Arawa Lakes Asset Management Plan outlines a 10-year strategy that focuses on the assets associated with the restoration of water quality for the Rotorua Lakes.
