Adapting to a changing climate

We now have the opportunity to prepare Bay of Plenty for a changing climate.

To ensure our region has a climate-resilient future, we're working to understand the impacts of climate change and taking proactive steps. This includes supporting sustainable systems, infrastructure, and projects.

Climate change adaptation is about responding to the changes we are already seeing and will continue to see, even with a global reduction in future emissions. This is the focus of Goals 3 and 5 of our Climate Change Action Plan

goal 3   As a region we understand, are preparing for and are adapting to a changing climate.

goal 5  Economic transtion is enabled.

Under this goal:

  • We work to understand the risks climate change presents for our region and our communities. Learn about the Regional Risk Assessment.
  • We support adaptation conversations across the region to help iwi, businesses and communities plan to adapt and protect what they value most. Learn about our Community-led Adaptation Funding initiative.
  • We look for opportunities for complimentary biodiversity and climate change actions.
