Te Hapai Ora is a fund to assist a community group or individual in successfully completing their event or project which aligns with promoting the social, economic, and cultural well-being of our communities.
Te Hapai Ora Fund provides financial assistance to community groups or individuals who are organising events or implementing projects that contribute to at least one of the Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council's Community Outcomes.
What can the funding be used for?
- The event must be directly relevant to the Bay of Plenty region.
- The event must be open and free to the entire community.
- The requested amount in the application should not exceed $2000.
- Charging an entry fee for the event should not result in any commercial gain.
- The event should not have a primary purpose of being religious, political, or fundraising.
- The organization should not have received over $2500 of Te Hapai Ora funding within the financial year.
- BOPRC reserves the right to use the activity for promotional purposes by agreeing to the sponsorship. This includes utilizing the application material and photos submitted in all Bay of Plenty Regional Council media.
- Allow Bay of Plenty Regional Council Councilors and staff to participate in the activity without any cost, if appropriate.
- The application should not be for paying wages or salaries, capital items, rents, overhead costs, research feasibility, markets, or raffles.
- The event should not have been started or completed before the application submission.
- After the event, the applicant agrees to complete and submit an accountability form within two weeks of its completion.
- The funding cannot have a primary purpose of being religious, political, or for fundraising and not be for commercial gain.
- Your event or project must not have started or been completed before the submission of your application.
How much can we fund?
Applications for a single activity/event, with a maximum grant of $2000.
Are you eligible? Check you meet the following criteria:
- Your event and location are in the Bay of Plenty.
- Your event has free public access.
- You are a community-based group (commercial entity, Government agency or district/city council).
- Your event is not receiving funding from any other Bay of Plenty Regional Council programmes for the same work.

Stage one is an initial screening by our Te Hapai Ora Community Fund Coordinator to check off the basic eligibility criteria and ensure the application is complete
Stage two is an assessment of the event. This assessment will look at the events overall impact and viability, as well as its ability to encourage community participation. Additional considerations will be any risks and opportunities.
Once both stages have been completed, the applicant will be notified of the outcome.
