An approved OSET system designer has obtained a New Zealand Certificate in On-Site Wastewater Management System Design Level 4 (NZQA – 4216) or a superseded but equivalent qualification.
Designers are separated into groups based office location for you convenience. Please note that the designers listed below are approved to work in any area of the Bay of Plenty regardless of their office location.
FAQ for those looking to gain accreditation as an approved OSET system designer within the Bay of Plenty region:
A 12 month programme delivered with a combination of online learning and two 2 day block courses. You must be in the industry designing on-site wastewater management systems as part of a council consenting process, and have enough exposure to gain the relevant skills covered within the programme.

Yes, but only on the proviso that Bay of Plenty Regional Council receive written confirmation that you will be on-site to complete the site and soil evaluations required by Schedule 5 of the Bay of Plenty On-site Effluent Treatment Regional Plan.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council will not accept applications by those that have had site and soil evaluations completed by employees, contractors etc that are not on the approved OSET system designer list.
No, Bay of Plenty Regional Council will only accept the New Zealand Certificate in On-Site Wastewater Management System Design Level 4.
