Bay of Plenty Regional Council is leading work to address harbour issues and works with community care groups and other organisations to ensure our harbours are safe, healthy environments for all to enjoy - now and in the future.

Many other organisations, groups and individuals also play a hugely important part in striving to protect, enhance and restore our harbours.

Tauranga Harbour

Te Awanui or Tauranga Harbour, is a regional treasure. It is one of New Zealand's largest natural harbours and is home to the country's biggest export port, the Port of Tauranga.

Opotiki Harbour

The Ōpōtiki Harbour Transformation Project focuses on creating a new harbour infrastructure that enables all weather, all tide access in and out of the harbour.

Ohiwa Harbour

The Ōhiwa Harbour is a large shallow estuary situated 11km east of Whakatāne and 16km west of Ōpōtiki in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
