Regional Transport Committee
Purpose
The Regional Transport Committee is responsible for preparing the Regional Land Transport Plan, or any significant variation to it.
It also:
Monitors implementation of the regional land transport plan.
Makes recommendations in support of land transport activities that are eligible for national funding and align with the regional land transport plan.
Co-ordinate, integrate and adopt regional transport and land-use strategies and plans
g. sub-regional spatial plans.Provides advocacy on strategic regional and inter-regional transport matters to Central Government and other key stakeholders as appropriate.
Provides the Regional Council with any advice and assistance the Regional Council may request in relation to its transport responsibilities.
Approves submissions to Central Government, local authorities and other agencies on Regional Transport Committee matters.
Monitors and provides advocacy on regional road safety matters.

Regional Transport Committee – Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) Hearings
Due to the unprecedented number of submissions received to the draft 2026-2036 Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP), and to allow staff time to process these – the original Hearings dates set for 19-21 August will now be deferred to a future date.
We will work closely with the Hearings Panel to identify suitable alternative dates for the RPTP Hearings and Deliberations before the end of the year and communicate the new dates to submitters as soon as they are set.
If you made a submission to the RPTP and would now like to speak to your submission once the new dates are locked in, please contact the transport team at: rptp@boprc.govt.nz to reserve a slot in the hearings schedule. Please also note that Hearings will still be held across Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatāne with the option to present online.
