Aerial imagery survey work in Rotorua to commence in September

September 2026

Rotorua residents may notice a low-flying aircraft operating across the district as part of an aerial imagery acquisition programme. The survey work is being done on behalf of Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council during the month of September.

The survey will collect aerial photographs to support wetland mapping, and monitoring across the district.

Weather permitting, flights will be carried out during daylight hours throughout September. The aircraft will follow planned flight paths to ensure comprehensive coverage of Rotorua and surrounding areas.

In addition to supporting wetland monitoring, the imagery will also provide valuable information for environmental management, planning, and emergency response activities across the region.

The flights are expected to cause minimal disruption, and no action is required from residents.
