Park closure for aerial spraying - May 2018
The Park will close at short notice for approximately three hours on one day this month (May 2018). The closure is to enable weed spraying over pine removal areas, in preparation for planting this winter.
Exact timing of the spray operation is weather dependant and will be communicated via on-site signage on the day. You are welcome to call the Park Ranger on 0800 884 881 ext 8807 to check if the Park is open before you visit.
Public planting days 16 & 17 June 2018
Planting season is coming up and we have 27,000 native trees to be planted in the Park this year. That includes 2,000 pohutukawa trees kindly donated by Geoff Canham Consulting.
Public planting days will be held on 16 and 17 June. Planting starts at 10.00am both days.
The planting area is near the trig site, approximately 30 minutes' walk uphill from the Poplar Lane car park.
Wet weather back-up dates are 23 and 24 June. If required, cancellation will be notified on this page by 9.00am on the scheduled planting day.

History, culture and heritage
The Park is significant in New Zealand's archaeological landscape as there are few examples of historical occupation of such complexity in such a relatively small area. This can be attributed to a large extent to the careful management of the land by the McNaughton family since the late 1800s. It is an extremely valuable public asset that should be preserved and celebrated in the future. Learn more.
