Tomorrow we will be in the Matua/Fergusson Park area from 8:30am to 3:30pm to do a biannual oil spill response training exercise.
Media are welcome to attend, however please contact Sanjana France, Communications Partner, on 021 923 339 to coordinate a time.
The public are asked to stay away from our area of operations during this time, but the northern side of the boat ramp will still be available for boats to come and go.
This training helps ensure we are prepared to respond in an oil incident and that our Oil Spill Response Plan is coordinated and effective. We will be using booms, oil skimmers, boats and PPE to contain and clean up the oil.
This inter-agency exercise includes staff from the Regional Council response team including the Regional Harbourmaster, Maritime NZ, Tauranga City Council, Department of Conservation, iwi, Waikato Regional Council & Gisborne District Council.
