Natural Hazards - Living with Risk

Depending on how you look at it the Bay of Plenty is an exciting place to live! Our region is subject to a number of natural events. Check out the BayHazards viewer to find out more about these natural hazards.

  • Volcanic activity
  • Earthquakes
  • Coastal processes
  • Extreme rainfall
  • Tsunami
  • Landslides

These natural events may produce natural hazards which can adversely affect human life, property or other aspects of the environment.

Regional Council is leading and co-ordinating work to identify where natural hazards are most likely to occur and what impacts they may have on people, property and the environment. We work in partnership with city and district councils, communities and research providers to collate, assess and share information under the Natural Hazards Programme.
