Dangerous Dams Policy

The Dangerous Dams Policy 2006 (60 KB, pdf) was adopted by Bay of Plenty Regional Council on 13 February 2007. It meets requirements of the Building Act 2004.

This policy reflects Council's determination to reduce the risk of dam failure over time in a way that is acceptable in social and economic terms to its ratepayers.

The draft policy was notified in August 2006 for submissions and all views considered in developing the final policy.

It is important to note that the Department of Building and Housing Regulations for the Dam Safety Scheme are yet to be finalised. The policy will not become operative until 3 months following the date on which those regulations have been approved.
