Maramara-a-Tawa wetland restoration
Maramara-a-Tawa is a six hectare wetland located on the true right-hand side of the Rangitaiki River; adjacent to the bridge as you enter Waiohau Valley from the north.
The land is administered by Land Information New Zealand and the Department of Conservation and there is a drainage easement held by Trustpower.
Regional Council has committed five years of funding for to the restoration of this culturally important wetland.
Restoration works will start in January 2017 with the control of a number of pest plants, particularly willow.
Here are a few ‘before’ images and we look forward to some ‘during’ and ‘after’ photos of this wonderful wetland.
