Kaituna River re-diversion karakia and public celebration

Please join us to celebrate the opening of new control gates that will restore freshwater flows from the Kaituna River into Te Awa o Ngātoroirangi / Maketu Estuary.

Meet at the marquee on the south side of the Ford Road bridge for karakia, speeches and a gate commissioning ceremony. The event will conclude with light refreshments and optional site tours.

Parking at 83 Ford Road, Maketū.

This is an outdoor event with some walking required over uneven ground. Please wear sturdy footwear and weather appropriate clothing.

A dawn karakia, attended by a small group of tangata whenua representatives and council delegates, will be held prior to the main event. This is to preserve the reverence of the occasion. Whānau, hapū and community are welcome to join them, but are encouraged to attend the public celebration at 9am.
