2022-10-28 - Geotechnical investigation work
UPDATE: Due changeable weather conditions, this work will now be carried out in the new year from January 18, 2023.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council is undertaking geotechnical investigation work at stopbanks around Ōpōtiki from Thursday November 17.
This will involve a mobile rig drilling small holes (between 30-50mm wide) into the top of the stopbanks, removing soil from inside the stopbanks, and refilling the holes once the investigation is complete. This will have no impact on the effectiveness of the stopbank.
Investigations are expected to take approximately three days at several locations along the Otara and Waioeka Rivers (marked in red squares on the map). When the contractor is working near a walkway, the walkway will be closed and a detour will be put in place.

These investigations are part of our efforts to understand more about the condition of our flood defences below ground, to help determine whether the stopbanks need upgrading.
We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding as we undertake this important work.
