# Adapting to a changing climate

_Bay of Plenty Regional Council is working to ensure a climate resilient future for our region._

We now have the opportunity to prepare Bay of Plenty for a changing climate.

To ensure our region has a climate-resilient future, we're working to understand the impacts of climate change and taking proactive steps. This includes supporting sustainable systems, infrastructure, and projects.

Climate change adaptation is about responding to the changes we are already seeing and will continue to see, even with a global reduction in future emissions. This is the focus of Goals 3 and 5 of our [Climate Change Action Plan](https://atlas.boprc.govt.nz/api/v1/edms/document/A3896371/content "climate change action plan"):

Under this goal:

- We work to understand the risks climate change presents for our region and our communities. Learn about the [Regional Risk Assessment](https://www.boprc.govt.nz/environment/climate-change/regional-risk-assessment/ "Regional risk assessment").
- We support adaptation conversations across the region to help iwi, businesses and communities plan to adapt and protect what they value most. Learn about our [Community-led Adaptation Funding initiative](https://www.boprc.govt.nz/environment/climate-change/community-led-adaptation-funding-initiative/ "Community-Led Adaptation Funding initiative").
- We look for opportunities for complimentary biodiversity and climate change actions.

Climate change considerations are required across a range of council services and programmes. Here are some of the other ways we are working to understand and adapt to our changing climate.
