Transit information now available for Rotorua bus users

Wednesday, 19 March 2014 9:00 a.m.

Rotorua residents can now plan their Cityride bus trips using Cityride’s Journey Planner powered by Google Transit.

Google Transit is a feature of Google Maps, found on your desktop and Google Maps for Android and iPhone, that helps you quickly and easily plan trips using public transportation.

Now live on www.baybus.co.nz, Journey Planner is an online search feature that let users search for bus routes directly on Google Maps.  All you have to do is enter where you are, where you want to go and when you want to be there and the journey planner works it out for you.

You can also compare different bus routes to work out when you need to leave to arrive at your destination on time. The directions will include the bus numbers, bus stop information, travel time, and the cost for each option. If there are any parts of the journey you need to walk it will include the walking directions, distance and an estimated walking time.

“We expect the Rotorua Google Transit journey planner will be as well used as the Tauranga version and make Rotorua’s Public Transport System more user friendly,” says Public Transport Sub Committee Chairman Lyall Thurston.

“It’s a great online tool for not only locals, but also visitors to Rotorua who aren’t familiar with the city.”

Google Transit is also available on Google Maps for Android and iPhone. Simply search for where you want go and Google Maps will show you how to get there using public transport from your current location.
