Boat on rocks at Mauao
Monday, 7 May 2012 11:00 a.m.
A 20ft yacht, Nivana, is badly damaged on the rocks of the western side of Mauāo.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council's Maritime staff were alerted around 6.30am on Monday 7 May 2012 and are responding to the incident. Investigations into the circumstances are underway.
Western Bay Harbour Master, Jennifer Roberts said the boat will not be re-floated until the next high tide, if at all.
"We will be working with Nivana's owner to minimise the impact on the environment and deal with the salvage," she said.
Update
See below for an image of the rescued boat, safely on dry
