Upcoming Resource Consent Application Hearings

Te Ahi o Maui Limited Parternship (Joint Hearing, Resource Consent Numbers: 67340 (Bay of Plenty Regional Council), LL-2013/8111/00 (Whakatane District Council) and 301673 (Kawerau District Council)

The applications to Bay of Plenty Regional Council include a take of up to 15,000 tonnes of geothermal fluid per day from the Kawerau Geothermal Reservoir to supply a new geothermal power station. It is also proposed to discharge the spent geothermal water back into the reservoir by way of injection. The applicant has requested a term of 35 years for these consents and a lapsing period of seven years.

The application to Whakatane District Council seeks to construct, operate, and maintain a geothermal power station and associated works and activities, including a substation, and to drill and establish well head structures for geothermal production, reinjection and monitoring purposes.

The application to Kawerau District Council seeks consent for the power transmission line route which crosses Parimahana Scenic Reserve.

The Hearing that was scheduled for the week of 27 May 2013 has been postponed at the applicant's request.  The Direction issued for pre-circulation of evidence is also no longer required.
