National Disaster Resilience Strategy

On 9 November 2016 staff from BOPRC and BOP Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM) attended a stakeholder workshop to provide input into the draft National Disaster Resilience Strategy. The strategy is being prepared under the CDEM Act and will replace the existing National CDEM Strategy.  It is also a blueprint for implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which is an international agreement the NZ Government is a signatory to.

The strategy has Risk and Resilience as its key focus, which represents a shift from the current focus on the “4 Rs” (Reduction, Readiness, Response, Recovery). The draft strategy is planned for release for public consultation in May 2017.
