Firewood Moisture Testing

It pays to get wood early as firewood sellers struggle to supply ready-to-burn firewood in the winter months.

The Regional Council undertakes random checks of firewood sellers in Rotorua to see if they are supplying wood within the Wood Fuel Classification Guide between 15 to 25 percent moisture content.

During three years of testing, results have been disappointing.

Firewood with high moisture content does not burn well therefore it does not heat homes well either. It also produces much more pollution than dry wood.
