Māori Committee's Delegated Function
The primary function of the Māori Committee is to set operational direction of Council's legislative obligations to Māori and to monitor how these are implemented. This will be achieved through development of specific operational decisions which translate legislative obligations to Māori into action.
We strongly encourage tangata whenua and the general public to attend and participate in this forum. We welcome feedback from the public and would like the Māori Committee to be a useful forum for Māori engagement. Meeting standing orders are relaxed to allow for presentations from tāngata whenua. If you have any questions please contact us on the details below.
We encourage Māori participation by holding meetings of the Māori Committee on marae across the region. You are welcome to come along and listen or present any issues of importance. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Māori Policy Manager.
Māori Committee Schedule
The Māori Committee holds quarterly meetings throughout the year. Notices are published in local and regional papers providing dates, venue and times. See the proposed schedule and Māori Committee flyer of the next committee meeting. Meetings could be subject to change please contact Maori Policy to confirm arrangements.
